I’m going to say it…..I’m kind of over Goodnight Moon. It’s been touted as one of the best bedtime stories for so long, that I say move over and give the little guys a chance. My MIL bought the Kid a bedtime book for Christmas, and I have to say that I think it’s pretty damn cute.
It’s called Night-Night, Little Pookie, by Sandra Boynton. My favorite thing about this story is that it follows Pookie’s bedtime routine. Which means as the Kid gets older, we can mimic the routine of teeth brushing, face washing, pajama wearing. It rhymes, which makes it easier for kids to remember. The illustrations are simple, but cute, so it’s easy on little kids’ eyes. And at the end, there is just the sweetest short poem, which I can easily see myself saying every night to my own little pookie-monster. But the proof is in the audience – the Kid sits and listens to you read him the story, even at 7 months. Sometimes he whines when I’m done, and wants to be read to again. Which I am more than happy to do with this story.
